December 2025 with Rep. Thompson

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As we wrap up 2025 and gather with family to celebrate the New Year, I wanted to take a moment to wish you and yours very happy New Year. Each year I look forward to Christmas and New Year celebrations; Christmas music, family time and meals, the spirit of giving, a renewed determination and new goals for the coming year, and a well-needed reprieve from the stress and upheaval of much of the rest of the previous year.

Earlier in the month, I attended ZooLights at Utah's Hogle Zoo and Governor Spencer J. Cox’s Christmas reception. The dazzling displays and warm hospitality were highlights, but the real magic was experiencing them together with family. Laughing on the carousel and enjoying hot chocolate and Christmas music made it special. The true joy comes from pausing to appreciate loved ones. This season's unique spirit of peace and connection reminds me that family is the greatest gift.

Amid the festivities, we returned for a Special Session to tackle urgent issues regarding election timelines and the appeals process for cases involving elections. Before we turn the page to 2026, I wanted highlight some big wins for our state’s fiscal health.

Looking Ahead to 2026
Serving our community is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

Over the past term, I've worked hard to bring people together, strengthen families, and focus on solutions that reflect the values of our community. From public safety to child care to education, my goal has always been to listen and lead with care and common sense.

This is why, after many conversations with community leaders, colleagues, neighbors, and my own family, I've decided to run for re-election. There is still important work ahead, and I'm ready to keep showing up and continue serving you.

I hope you'll follow along and join me on my campaign to earn your vote in 2026.
End of Year Update
Fiscal Discipline
  • A new report confirms what we’ve been working toward: Utah’s conservative financial stewardship is paying off in a big way. We now rank 45th in the nation for lowest total debt per person, and we’ve managed to pay down our debt by a massive 66% since 2021. This is the result of living within our means and planning ahead rather than kicking the can down the road. I’m committed to keeping us on this track, protecting your tax dollars, and keeping Utah one of the best-managed states in the country.

Higher Education Affordability

  • We just ranked #1 in the nation for the lowest higher-education cost burden! College expenses here average just 27% of median income (compare that to states like Pennsylvania where it’s over 72%!) It’s no wonder our enrollment is up 4.2% this year with more than 216,000 students. This shows that our efforts to keep education accessible are working. As your representative, I’m all in on keeping costs down so our kids can get the education they need to succeed right here in Utah.
Upcoming Townhalls

Ahead of the 2026 Legislative Session that begins January 20, 2026, I will be hosting three townhalls. During these events, I will be discussing the upcoming session, legislation I have been working on, and would love to hear from you. What is on your mind? Please take the time to join us!
