November 2025 with Rep. Thompson

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

There is no better place to be in November and December than right here in Utah. I am reminded daily of the strength of our families and the resilience of our communities. I hope you all had a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

This past month took me as far as India to build trade relationships and kept me close to home to celebrate a massive win for nuclear energy in Northern Utah. Whether abroad or local, the goal is always the same: creating a stronger, more self-reliant future for our state.

Below, you’ll find updates on these projects, as well as an op-ed on the balance between government and faith.

Month of Gratitude

In preparation for Thanksgiving this year, I decided to lean into the spirit of the season and try a "Month of Gratitude." I challenged myself to post something I was grateful for on social media every single day. This exercise was a wonderful reminder to be intentional and appreciate the blessings in my life. I hope you find time to practice gratitude daily too.

Op-Ed On Government Replacing Religion
This past month, I wrote an op-ed on some thoughts I've been having on the increase of dependence on our government for things that once came from faith and communities.

My article highlights how the massive expansion of the welfare state has steadily replaced the essential civic and charitable roles once held by faith organizations and communities. This shift has not only fueled dependency and contributed to the colossal national debt, but has also coincided with a dramatic decline in religiosity and a collapse in public trust in government. I want to stress that while government provides transactional checks, it cannot supply the virtue, belonging, and purpose that underpin a free society.
Trade Mission to India

I recently joined Utah officials and business leaders on a trade mission to India. Our aim was to build stronger ties and introduce Utah businesses to Indian companies. Their hospitality and eagerness were impressive, as was the enthusiasm of young Indian entrepreneurs. Thanks to the World Trade Center Utah for coordinating this successful trip!

Bringing a Nuclear Hub to Brigham City

Last week, I attended a landmark event where Gov. Spencer Cox and Brigham City Mayor, DJ Bott, introduced a partnership between Hi Tech Solutions and Holtec International. This agreement establishes Brigham City as a future hub for nuclear energy. It is a massive step forward for Northern Utah, as it represents an investment of over $750 million dollars and is projected to create thousands of jobs. It also exemplifies Utah’s dedication to balancing innovation with responsible growth.

Americans for Prosperity Cottage Meeting

Lastly, I would like to invite you to join us for an evening of meaningful conversation and community at our upcoming Americans for Prosperity Cottage Meeting. We will be gathering on Thursday, December 4th, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the David B. Haight Center on the USU campus. This is a great opportunity to connect with neighbors and discuss the issues that matter most to Utah. Dinner will be served, so bring your appetite and your questions!
