Education
I am honored to serve on two education committees in the Utah House of Representatives– the Public Education Committee and the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
A Top Priority for the Thompson Family and Our State: As the parents of six children in Utah’s public schools, my wife and I know firsthand how much a great education matters. Like so many Utah families, we’ve seen the difference dedicated teachers and strong schools make in a child’s life, and that experience drives my work as a Legislator every day. While serving on multiple education committees, I’ve worked to make sure students, parents, and teachers have the funding and support they need. I am committed to strengthening our public schools so every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Supporting Our Teachers and Administrators: Our teachers do some of the most important work in our state and deserve our full support. I am actively working to:
Remove unnecessary administrative burdens on our school districts and teachers
Reduce class sizes so students get more individual attention and improve professional development so teachers have the tools and training to grow in their profession
By backing our teachers and administrators alike, we can keep great educators in the classroom and attract more talented people to the profession who will focus on teaching our next generation of citizens.
Preparing Students for a Changing World: The world our students live in today is evolving quickly, and our education system needs to keep pace. Beyond core academics, students need durable skills: leadership, entrepreneurship, and a growth mindset, to succeed in their years ahead. That is why I believe in a well-rounded education that prioritizes STEM, the classics, financial literacy, civics, the arts, and trade skills.
Partnering with Parents: Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher, and they deserve a seat at the table. I believe families should have meaningful choices in finding the right educational fit for their children. A strong public school system and family choice aren’t at odds; together they help ensure that every Utah child gets an education suited to their needs. I’ll continue working to keep parents actively engaged as partners in their children’s success.
A Responsible Steward of Education Funding: The dollars we invest in education are the most important we allocate. As your Representative, I am committed to being a responsible steward of those funds, putting those resources where they matter most: in the classroom, supporting teachers and our students.
Looking Ahead: Education is very personal to me. Together, we can support teachers, empower parents, and prepare every student with the skills they need to succeed.
