Strong Families, Strong Utah: As a father of six, I believe supporting families and children is one of the most important responsibilities of the Utah Legislature. This isn't just policy to me. It's personal. Every vote I cast, I think about the kind of Utah my children and yours will inherit. I commit to you a vision for Utah families: making Utah a place where families can not just get by, but flourish.
The Challenge Families Face in the Best Place to Raise the Next Generation: Utah has always been the best place in the nation to live, work, and raise a family. I’m committed to keeping it that way. But rising costs and challenges facing families today threaten the Utah way of life. By strengthening our families today, we're building the strong communities, and the strong Utah, that the next generation deserves.
Whether authoring legislation or casting a vote, my commitment is the same: making quality child care more accessible and affordable for Utah families.
My Record: I haven't just talked about these challenges, I’ve delivered solutions. I sponsored legislation to expand child care options, support providers and help working families, expand access, affordability, and child care capacity through Utah, including:
HB 389 (2025) – Child Care Business Tax Credit. I created a new state tax credit encouraging employers to build, expand, and operate child care facilities for their employees—a free-market solution that grows child care capacity without heavy-handed mandates.
HB 190 (2026) – Child Care Business Tax Credit Expansion. I built on that success by expanding the credit— increasing it for small businesses and extending it to off-site child care facilities —so even more Utah families can benefit.
HB 373 (2025) – Service Marketplace Platform Amendments. I sponsored legislation clarifying independent-contractor status for child care workers, giving providers and workers greater flexibility to serve Utah families.
HB 382 (2025) – Child Care Modifications. Expanded subsidy eligibility and increased funding, including $9 million for child care assistance and facilities.
HB 410 (2025) – Child Care Amendments. Updated licensing and operational rules to improve access and reduce regulatory barriers for providers.
SB 221 (2025) – Child Care Revisions. Made it easier for residential providers to care for more children by modernizing licensing requirements.
SB 214 (2026) – Home-based Child Care Capacity Expansion. Created a grant program to expand home-based child care and grow provider capacity.
Looking Ahead: Throughout the 2025 and 2026 legislative sessions, I supported policies that strengthen Utah families by helping them keep more of what they earn and making it easier to raise children.I voted to reduce Utah's income tax , expand the Child Tax Credit , increase access to affordable child care, and supported investments that helped working parents and students succeed. These votes reflect my commitment to keeping Utah one of the best places in the nation to raise a family.
